Madeline Smith Scoular -Owner/Executive Producer
Madeline is the Owner/CEO of Manta Media LLC. Manta Films and Madeline Photo are subsidiaries of Manta Media LLC. She grew in Washington, DC and comes from a long line of lawyers, so naturally she was drawn to acting. In her twenties she packed her car and moved to Hollywood. After working in local theatre, starring in six national commercials, and starring inc ountless independent films, such as “The Futurist,” “Such’s Life,” and “Jack’s Gift,” Madeline found herself drawn to the other side of the camera. Madeline has worked on over 100 television commercials and music videos. As a Producer and Production Manager she has worked on music videos for artists such as Madonna, Incubus, Fergie, Gavin DeGraw, Janet Jackson and commercials for such clients as Goodyear, Trop50, Coke, Lenscrafters, AT&T...to name a few. And she has over 10 years experience a Post Production Supervisor. Madeline’s feature film and documentary credits include the award winning feature film, “Lunatics, Lover’s and Poets” written and directed by her husband, John Scoular.“Makers” for PBS as well as Producing the PBS documentary “Paradise Reef” which won her an Emmy Award.. Her expertise in budgeting and vision for story allow her to bring unprecedented qualityto the screen without compromise.
Since forming Manta Films with her husband in Naples Florida she has built a formidable production company that continues to make films and serve business clients with video content and photography.
As Madeline is an accomplished UPM and Production manager she is often hired by NY, LA, and Chicago Production companies when they shoot their jobs in Florida.
As the mother of 4 Madeline also found a niche as a family Portrait Photographer to where she got so busy we had to get her, her own website. www.madelinephoto.com
John Scoular- Director/DP
John is an Emmy winning Writer/Director/Cinematographer and has spent over 20 years in film, video and photography. He started his career in N.Y. as an actor studying at H.B. Studios. Upon moving to Los Angeles he honed his writing & directing skills with Los Angeles based theater companies writing and directing stage plays in 99 seat houses all over town, as well as directing award winning short films. Wanting to improve his filmmaking skills John enrolled in The Los Angeles Film school where he graduated with honors. HIs first feature film from his original screenplay,“Lunatics, Lovers & Poets.” produced by his wife won 6 awards including “Best Screenplay,” “Best Feature,” “Best Director”. The Independent film was released in theaters across the United States through Carmike Cinemas.
After the birth of their 2nd of 4 children it was time to escape Los Angeles to Naples, Fl, where he and Madeline formed Manta Films,, a video production company. The goal was to bring what they learned in the film industry to Businesses, Private Schools and Non-Profits who need video content. Simultaneously John fell into Documentary filmmaking. His first Documentary which he Wrote/Directed/Filmed and edited was “Paradise Reef” which aired on PBS and won 4 Emmy Awards. Next came “Marcus Jansen: Examine and Report” which he filmed in NY, Miami, London and Fort Myers. The film won “Best of Show” at the Fort Myers Film Festival, and “Best Documentary” at EHTVF in East Hampton, NY and continues to be viewed on Amazon Prime.
In addition to his work with Manta Films, outside companies hire John as a Cinematographer or content creator, and also as a photographer hanging out of Choppers chasing Go Fast Boats or Luxury Fishing and Cruising Boats off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, New Orleans and the Bahamas.
